Hungary: Sightseeing in Budapest

My spontaneous trip to Budapest - An unforgettable experience

I had originally planned to travel to Berlin, as the city had been on my bucket list for a long time. Berlin fascinated me because of its eventful history, lively cultural scene and numerous sights that I really wanted to experience. But when I tried to book a hostel and the trip two days before departure, I realized that the prices in Berlin were simply unaffordable. A bed in a shared room suddenly cost 120 euros per night! That was too expensive for me, so I changed my mind and went for some sightseeing in Budapest – a decision that turned out to be a great one.

Arrival and first exploration tour

As soon as I arrived in Budapest, I was immediately captivated by the unique atmosphere of the city. The impressive architecture, the cultural diversity and the hustle and bustle on the streets immediately captivated me. I could hardly wait to discover the city, so I grabbed my camera and set off. Even on my first tour of the city, I was able to take some impressive photos – from the magnificent Chain Bridge to the majestic Fisherman’s Bastion. I particularly remember a moment at the Chain Bridge when the setting sun bathed the sky in warm colors and the lights of the city slowly began to glow. These first impressions were the perfect start to my adventure in Budapest.

Sightseeing, spa and new friendships

I experienced a lot during my four days in Budapest. It was especially nice to meet people from all over the world. We explored the city together, visited famous sights such as the Hungarian Parliament and the Buda Castle and enjoyed the hustle and bustle of the streets. We laughed a lot as we talked about our previous experiences and the small cultural differences. These shared experiences made the trip all the more intense.

An absolute highlight was a visit to one of the city’s famous thermal baths. After all the sightseeing, it was just the right thing to relax in the warm water and unwind. It was fascinating to see how Budapest combines the modern world with the centuries-old bathing tradition.

The Hungarian food was also a real experience. In the evening, we tried the local specialties – from hearty soups to sweet strudels. Of course, the Hungarian beer was not to be missed! On the last evening, we went on a boat tour on the Danube. The lights of the city reflected in the water created a magical atmosphere and provided a wonderful end to my time in Budapest.

Onward journey to Bucharest

After four eventful days in Budapest, my journey continued to Bucharest. The journey on the night train was an exciting experience, even if it wasn’t particularly comfortable. It took around 12 hours. The rocking of the carriage woke me up several times during the night and I occasionally had the feeling that the train might tip over. Nevertheless, the journey gave me the opportunity to reflect on the experiences of the last few days and prepare for the next adventure. I left Budapest with a smile on my face, with lots of memories and new friendships that I’m sure will last long after my stay.
